The revamped Impulse line marks a new era for Black Diamond skis as their product engineers bring us models that focus a little less on uphill performance and a lot more on downhill capability.
The new Impulse Ti 112 features a poplar core, topped with a sheet of Titanal, to deliver the power, precision, and stability that epic lines demand. This redesign completely transforms the feel of the ski when it’s pointed downhill. The core retains the torsional stiffness of previous years, with the added metal acting as a dampener that significantly reduces vibrations from the rigid wood core. This inspires confidence on variable terrain and adds top-end stability.
The damping theme continues as elastomeric materials have been added throughout the core, which decreases high-frequency vibrations and enhances durability. The result is a ride far smoother and more precise than its predecessor.
The ski’s profile features traditional camber with an early rise in the tip and tail to make floating through powder a breeze and add forgiveness and easy maneuverability in couloirs and tight trees. This profile is complemented by a slight taper in the tail, giving the ski its directional shape and making turn initiation feel buttery smooth. The traditionally opposing traits of stiffness and early-rise rocker meld together to yield a damp and stable ski with intuitive turn initiation. Redefining what a backcountry, big mountain ski can be, the Impulse Ti 112 is a predictable and stable ride that’s ready for big storms and even bigger lines.
