Occupying the narrow end of Faction’s Dancer family, this ski is the newest sibling, slotting in right between the narrowest 79 TI and the all-new, all-mountain 99 TI. Faction has traditionally been known as a freestyle ski producer but in recent years the brand has expanded its Titanal-infused offerings, catering to hard-charging skiers who live outside of the park. The result is a stiff, directional line of skis that thrives on groomers, thanks to a damp and stable attitude.
The Dancer’s 89-mm waist provides lightning-fast edge transitions while still offering enough shape to jump off-piste when it hasn’t snowed in a while. This ski is built around a directional shape that hooks up quickly. Two layers of metal surround the stout and powerful wood core. Rounding out the composition are a low-rise tip rocker and a flat tail, which plant you in the snow and prevent that surfy, slarvy feel.Â
The 89 thrives when you drive through the tip, delivering a precise ride that returns energy out of every turn. Off piste, the ski can be a bit of a handful but when you find the right line and command its authority, it delivers an electric experience.
With its narrow waist, the 89 is best suited for low-tide conditions and can be relied on to blast through rough snow with little thought. A frontside rocket ship, the new Dancer 89 TI is your ticket to breathtaking lefts and rights.
