The Patrol E2 is a battery-powered airbag designed for backcountry skiers who want advanced protection and storage space for larger missions. The Alpride E2 airbag system inflates using a rechargeable supercapacitor instead of a pressurized canister. The battery and inflation unit, which sits inside the main compartment, charges via USB cord and is noticeably smaller than its predecessor (about 40 percent). From outside of the pack, visible LED lights reveal the E2’s current battery level so you can keep an eye on it as you travel through the mountains. Inside the pack, you can check that information on the LCD display and a AA battery backup is also built in for an added level of safety if your charge ever runs out. The decreased size of the supercapacitor keeps the weight down to 1,620 grams and opens up more storage space in the main compartment. The tool pocket on the front of the pack includes organizers for your shovel handle and probe, as well as a mesh pocket to keep your smaller accessories out of the way.
