The Ripstick 102 is here to prove that even directional skis can be playful. As the second-widest ski in Elan’s Ripstick family, the Ripstick 102 is an incredibly fun, lightweight, energetic and intuitive ski for intermediate and advanced skiers.
The Ripstick 102 features an asymmetrical design, with dedicated left and right skis, which Elan calls Amphibio technology. Contact points on the inside edges of each ski are placed closer to the tip than the corresponding contact points on the outside edge. As soon as you put pressure into the front of your boot, the contact quickly engages for effortless turn initiation without having to muscle the ski.
A softer tip aids the ski’s seamless turns and makes it incredibly easy to pivot if you encounter unexpected obstacles throughout your day. While this is a benefit on those softer days, it can certainly become undesirable at high speeds and for those who look to get the absolute most out of large turns and big faces.
A poplar and paulownia wood core keeps the ski light and is enhanced with two carbon rods that run along the sidewalls. Using this design, rather than full sheets of the material, makes the Ripstick 102 more energetic while delivering plenty of pop.
As a lightweight and energetic ski with a wide enough waist to conquer deeper conditions, the Ripstick 102 is a very versatile option for most skiers. The asymmetrical design makes it a joy to turn both on piste and off, and the lightweight wood core and carbon rods provide stability and excellent maneuverability.Â
If you’re a medium-build, intermediate-to-expert skier, the Ripstick 102 is a great daily driver that won’t tire you out on bell-to-bell days crushing corduroy or slaying a new storm layer.
