This ski represents a new era for Kastle, building skis for modern freeriders and the North American audience in mind. Both groups gravitate toward skis with forgiving tips and looser tails, which is appreciated in technical terrain. The Transcend 114 meets these needs without abandoning the race-influenced precision and stiff reputation that Kastle’s freeride skis have gained over the years.

The ski is built around a wood core that is stiffest in the center and softer in the tips and tails. A combination of metal and rubber is added to the central third of the ski, damping the ride and adding rigidity without extending through the extremities. Finally, Kastle uses what they call Hollow Tech, which removes material from the tip of the ski, reducing swing weight.

It’s important to note that this construction feels more like a burly ski with a little bit of forgiveness rather than a stiff ski with soft tips and tails. This carries through in the ski shape, opting for a rocker-camber profile, that includes only a slight amount of tail rocker, which helps the ski maintain a strong turn shape without punishing you when you need to release.

This ski rips through fresh snow and tracked-out pow, preferring to drive through the flakes rather than floating on top. It’s for the aggressive freeride skier looking for a damp, powerful ski.
