Over the last few seasons, Nordica’s Unleashed series has brought the race-heritage brand into the freeride arena, with much acclaim. The Unleashed 120 is the brand’s marquee powder ski and after its debut last season, it continues to turn heads for its deep-snow performance and psychedelic topsheet.Â
The Unleashed 120 is made for the deepest days of the season and big-mountain faces you find in Alaska and British Columbia. Unlike many other powder-centric planks, the Unleashed 120 is snappy and incredibly maneuverable for its size. Compared to the 114 and now-retired 108, the Unleashed 120’s rocker and taper points are closer to the true center. This puts the widest point of the plank closer to the binding for premium flotation while also allowing the ski to easily release a turn and schmear the tails across the surface of the snow.Â
Despite its propensity for powder plundering, the Unleashed 120 lays down an impressive turn on variable snow and gives the rider freedom to choose their own adventure. The taper points also make the ski ride shorter than its stated length—our shorter testers had no issue throwing around the 180 cm—so if you’re debating between sizes, we recommend going up.Â
While some big skis out there feel beefy underfoot, and take more energy to move around, the Unleashed 120 is also a solid crud buster without being an energy-sucker. You can kick it into fifth gear when and where you want but you can also relax and cruise when the pow stacks up.Â
