Terrain Breakdown
The Palisades Pedestal
Currently ranked as the third largest ski area in North America, Palisades' 6,000 skiable acres are nothing to scoff at—nearly a third of the mountain is rated as advanced terrain. With steep, sustained pitches across all six of the resort's mountain peaks, Palisades has produced many of skiing's legends and prodigies since the mountain opened in 1949. With an average annual snowfall of 400 inches and ample snowmaking on 11 of the 29 lifts, there's almost always a secret stash to uncover.
Skiing at Palisades Tahoe
If you’re looking for sustained steeps with massive features and nauseating drops the resort is famous for, KT-22 is probably one of the best lifts in the world. Be sure to check out the world-famous Fingers for some serious butt-clenching terrain. Headwall is also awesome and you can find great lines almost everywhere you look. The double-edged sword of KT is that it faces north, so the snow conditions are usually the worst of the mountain. On the Alpine side, the resort's hike-to terrain shines bright. Beaver, Estelle and Wolverine are some of the only places you’ll find fresh tracks when everything else is skied out on a big storm day.
For skiers looking for a more mellow experience, there are some great cruisy blues on Sherwood. Shirley and Siberia Face are also more laid-back options for those not wanting to take on technical terrain, but still have a good time. Don’t forget to close out your day with a classic B.N. (call your mom for extra points).

Getting There
The closest place to fly in is the Reno-Tahoe International Airport, which is just a 45-minute drive from the resort. Palisades is also just two hours away from Sacramento, so driving from the Sacramento airport is a viable option as well. We would recommend renting a car when you’re there, as food options in the village are limited and there’s tons of skiing to be done around the Lake Tahoe area. If you’ve got one of the multi-resort passes, it’s easy to resort hop and have an epic week of skiing.
Planning Your Trip
Palisades is a ten minute drive to the nearest town, Tahoe City, and 15 from Truckee. Both are bustling ski towns with plenty of restaurant and lodging options for all budgets. If you’re wanting ski-in ski-out, The Village offers suites and rooms at up to 25% off for Ikon Pass holders, but traffic in and out of the resort can be tough to go to dinner or coffee in surrounding towns.
If you’re looking to be a little more thrifty, the Mellow Mountain Hostel offers dorm-style bunks for under $50 per night, so you can spend all your money buying ski patrol a pint at The Dub.
