Fischer makes its priorities clear with the RC4 Free Pro. This is not a lightweight touring boot pretending to be an alpine boot, it's an alpine charger that can go uphill. Unlike most freeride-oriented boots, the RC4 Free Pro intentionally omits a walk mode. Fischer wanted downhill strength above all, and a walk mode detracts from that. The boot does include tech toe inserts compatible with select hybrid bindings like the CAST system and the Fischer Attack Hybrid.
Fit lands squarely in the mid-volume category, but the RC4 is highly customizable thanks to a heat-moldable lower shell and a high-end ZipFit liner that uses cork around the ankle and in the tongue. Cork molds better to the foot than common foam and packs out much slower, extending the life of the boot. A BOA closure system wraps the forefoot, reducing the risk of instep pain and allowing quick micro-adjustments on the fly.
The RC4 Free Pro feels powerful and composed when you press into the front of the boot. It thrives in high-consequence terrain and rough snow, with direct turn engagement and impressive stability when conditions get chaotic.
