Heli Skiing Finally Landed in California: Sweetwater Heli

The Eastern Sierra Mountains boast some of North America's most enticing terrain. Yet these peaks, for all their wonder, are known for being wild and untamed, but what if it was more reachable than you thought?

For the first time in California state history, you’ll be able to reach powdery spines, wide open alpine faces and enticing chutes with a top-tier heli skiing operator: Sweetwater Heli. 

Launching in January of 2026, Sweetwater Heli will be based in the Sweetwater Mountains, serving the Lake Tahoe and Mammoth regions. The operation is set to unlock 180,000 acres of skiing and riding within the Humboldt-Toiyabe National forest, topping out on Mount Patterson (11,673’), with six other surrounding summits over 10,000 feet.

Founded by California natives and avid members of the local California ski community, Sweetwater Heli can take you to all the secret stashes you’ve only ever heard about. 

“Having the opportunity for world class heli skiing right here in California is truly priceless,” says Co-founder Brian Kirschenmann. “And long overdue.” 

Sweetwater’s guiding staff is experienced and certified–ensuring you and your crew can focus on ripping up the untouched pow. In addition to being highly certified, members of the Sweetwater staff are California ski community locals and can teach you the ins and outs of the California snow pack.

The accessibility for big lines in the Sierras just got better

Though they are the only heli ski operation in the state, Sweetwater is already setting the bar high. Their current offering is intimate groups of four guests per guide, promising 6-8 runs per day, locally sourced lunches and as much vert as you can handle.
