Powder Mountain will be opening for the 2026/27 winter on December 11, the resort announced in a recent press release. After a subpar 2025/26 season, Pow Mow, along with the rest of Utah, will be anxiously awaiting the first snow this fall.
The resort is located outside of Eden, Utah, and has historically been a haven for those willing to drive the extra mile (or 10), as it sits far away from the notoriously packed Little and Big Cottonwood Canyons. There are a few big upgrades coming this season. The new DMI Lift is expected to spin this winter and will deliver over 1,000 acres of terrain with 2,200 feet of vertical rise in the Wolf Creek Canyon zone .
A new high-speed quad is also slated to replace the old Sundown Lift. It will cut ride times in half and be available for night skiing as well. Plus, a new Sundown Lodge is in the works, but isn't scheduled to debut until winter 2027/28.
Powder Mountain been a local favorite for years, though recent changes from the majority owner and Netflix CEO Reed Hastings have caused a shift in favoritism. Hastings bought a majority share in the ski area in 2023 with a $100 million investment.
The largest change to the resort has come in the form of Powder Haven , a new self-described "private ski community" located within Powder Mountain's boundaries. There are a total of 650 homesites planned, with that number being a hard cap. 3,500 acres of Powder Mountain's 8,000 total acres is now reserved exclusively for Powder Haven members and their guests.
This cut in acreage available for regular season pass holders has not come with a large reduction in ticket price, and as of last year, parking is now $12 per vehicle on weekends and holidays. These changes certainly have their pros and cons for local skiers, and time will tell if Powder continues to move in the direction it's been heading over the last three seasons.
That said, if you're looking for a resort in the Wasatch area that does offer significantly fewer people than the alternative options and your budget isn't constrained, grabbing a Powder Mountain pass is a good call.
