We get it; the summertime blues have you in full swing. No four o’clock aprés stoke at the local watering hole, no snow-caked beards from snorkel-deep turns or thawing toes—just the heavy slog of long days and inescapable sunburns. Who needs all that? The bad news is there are still several months until ski season hits the Northern Hemisphere again. The good news is, we have a cure, and it’s sitting right on this page.
Mark Abma has been a staple in skiing for two decades. Despite having filmed with Matchstick Productions since 2003 and having traveled the world throughout his time as a pro, Abma has much more in the tank, as he confirmed in this 2024 interview with FREESKIER. But we’re taking a moment to look back at 2017 Abma, and his segment from the MSP film “Drop Everything.” From laid out 360s and pillow poppin’ to cold smoke turns, it’s got everything you need to cool off.
From YouTube:
In this week’s Segment Saturday, Matchstick veteran Mark Abma showcases his signature style in the 2017 film ‘Drop Everything.’ With decades of experience under his belt, Abma still skis with the energy of someone half his age. His segment blends effortless flow, massive backcountry booters, and flawless powder turns to create one of the film’s most memorable performances. Whether he’s navigating steep spines or sending big airs, Mark proves once again why he’s been filming with Matchstick since 2003.
