No jokes here on this April Fools because Mother Nature just delivered 13 inches to Crested Butte overnight and it is still coming. After a long dry spell, this is a breath of fresh air for Crested Butte as they are planning to close this weekend. The snow is projected to last till early Thursday morning. This storm is part of a broader storm system set to hit the central and northern parts of Colorado that will last until Friday. The southern Rockies around the San Juan Mountains are projected to receive more snow than the central and northern mountains.Â
The last major snowfall Crested Butte got was the weekend of Jan. 24. The resort has been surviving with a base of 34 inches and a season total of 129 inches. According to Crested Butte’s website, they have seven out of 15 lifts open and 31 of 167 trails open. Early April is not unusual for Crested Butte compared to other Colorado resorts that try to stay open until May.
The mountain plans to celebrate the end of their 64th season with live music, an Easter egg hunt, a costume contest and more. Who knows, with all this new snow coming, some more runs might open up, so grab your skis and try to catch this last powder day for Crested Butte’s 25/26 season.Â
