We've reached the final leg of the 2026 Freeride World Tour. This time of the year always catches us with a mix of nostalgia and excitement, but let's just focus on the excitement! The last stop of the Tour, the YETI Xtreme Verbier, has been confirmed for Saturday, March 28.
Held on the iconic Bec des Rosses, the comp is always a favorite for athletes and fans. The face is relentlessly demanding, boasting a nearly 2,000-vertical-foot descent and a maximum pitch of 51 degrees. It's been over three decades since the first skiers attempted to navigate the Bec in competition, and the progression has only accelerated each year.
The rankings in both the ski men and ski women fields are tightly contested. Three different women have finished first at each of the three competitions this season, leaving multiple possibilities on the table when it comes to the title of World Champion. On the men's side, each of the top three riders, Toby Rafford, Ben Richards and Ross Tester, will be looking to take first place and secure the title. Ugo Troubat, currently sitting in fourth place, is also a strong contender. Any way you slice it, there is no clear winner, which is all the more reason to tune in.
As is always the case in Verbier, the skiing will only be half the action. A weekend of good times is on the horizon, with the Tour organizing music and events each day. "Verbier will come alive with a full weekend of celebrations," the official press release reads. "The event village on Rue de Médran will be open from Friday at 12:00 p.m through Sunday at 5:00 p.m, offering a dynamic program of activities. Fans can enjoy DJ sets, brand activations and rider signing sessions, creating a unique opportunity to connect with the athletes. On Saturday and Sunday, the Ski Test Village at Ruinettes will give visitors the chance to try the latest equipment on snow. Don’t miss out, discover the full program of events and experiences on site."
It's also worth noting that if you're planning to attend the comp, you can snag 40% off a lift pass when you take the train to Le Châbel and present your ticket at the window. Save the environment and save money, what's not to like?
But if you're like us and want to tune in from afar, be sure to livestream the competition and tune into the FREESKIER following the event for the full recap, highlights and podium results. It's been an odd season on the Freeride World Tour, with Mother Nature throwing curveball after curveball. But the FWT staff has done the best they can with challenging conditions and we're excited to watch these skiers send it in style at Verbier.
Last year's Xtreme Verbier did not disappoint. Expect more of the same
