Many of us have been watching Sander Hadley for years. His segment in Matchstick Productions' "Days of My Youth" has been imprinted in freeski history since its inception, and it serves as just one of many testaments to his creative, untamed riding. More recently, his 2023 season edit delivered a reaffirming notice that, now 10 years after entering the limelight of skiing, he's still serving it up with the best.
But all too often, life can get in the way of skiing. That was the case for Hadley last season, as he was struck with pain for much of winter 2025 while he waited for a double hip replacement. But this didn't stop him. Instead of head-hunting for short clips during this wounded season, he decided, for more reasons than one, to set up the camera and try to piece a longer project together.
"Life and the world are nuanced," Hadley told FREESKIER. "I want to show you who I am, and there is much more to me than a five-second stunt. If you start creating for anyone other than yourself, you’ll quickly lose yourself. Just ask me, I’ve lost myself multiple times in the decade of this game, chasing what I think sponsors and others want me to be. Last winter, I just wanted to create something for myself."
Despite being limited to small terrain, with the exception of a quick trip to Alaska, Hadley managed to create an enjoyable project that makes you want to grab your skis and head for the nearest hill. And if that isn't a success, then I don't know what is. With both hips on the mend, we'll be watching Hadley with a keen eye this winter.
From YouTube:
After being denied by health insurance for double hip surgery the summer of 2024, I knew winter 24-25 was going to be a challenge with the amount of pain I was in. I spent most of my time at home hiking around and even got a last minute invite to Alaska for my first trip up there. Now that both hips are repaired, I'm feeling better and stronger than ever.
