Ski season is picking up steam across North America. Arapahoe Basin and Keystone were the first resorts on the continent to open for winter 2025/26, and others have joined them in recent days. Snow guns are blazing, lifts are spinning and the people are fired up. It's the most joyous time of the year!

In Colorado, Breckenridge, Copper and Loveland were all able to safely open up a few runs, with the latter two even setting up a few rails for some early-season park laps. Across the country, other resorts were able to begin their seasons as well. Sunday River, Maine and Killington, Vermont, each drew mass gatherings as they cut the red tape. To the north, Lake Louise, Canada, saw excellent temps and great early-season coverage as the resort welcomed riders back.

Check out the highlights from recent opening days below, and stay tuned as more resorts across the U.S. and Canada are slated to open in the coming weeks.

Breckenridge

Colorado

Breck was treated to a bluebird Rocky Mountain day on November 7, and Colorado skiers were out in full force to take advantage of the good weather on opening day. The resort is currently running two lifts, one gondola and two magic carpets, with two runs open for riding.

Copper Mountain

Colorado

Copper always brings the hype on opening day. Stoked skiers packed the runs on November 7, as Woodward welcomed riders back with 15 features in the Eagle Hike Park, which has one of the best early-season setups we've seen to date. The American Eagle Lift is currently the only chair in operation, with four runs open for skiing.

Loveland Ski Area

Colorado

The closest open ski area to Colorado's front range, Loveland skiers came out in full force on November 8. Wide open groomers on Catwalk, Mambo and Home Run are open for carving, plus a few features set up in the terrain park. Chet's Dream is currently the only lift, with more snow needed in Loveland's high-alpine terrain.

Sunday River

Maine

Mainers do it right! Sunday River became the first ski resort in Maine to open for winter 2025/26 on November 12. Partly cloudy skies didn't stop skiers from coming out mid-week to celebrate the start to another winter. Snow making continues, as just one lift and one trail are open at the moment.

Killington

Vermont

The Beast began winter 2025/26 on November 12, the same day as their neighbors to the north, Sunday River. This was the most terrain ever opened on day one in Killington's history. Snow was flying and smiles were plentiful. Two lifts and a whopping 10 trails are open for riding, leading the country.

Lake Louise

Alberta, Canada

The maple leaf flag was flying high as Lake Louise Ski Resort welcomed riders back onto the hill. Cold temps continue to move into Banff, which could be good for more terrain. Currently, Lake Louise is offering skiing on three lifts and six runs.
