Unless you’ve been living under a rock–or in a backcountry hut–all winter, you’ve probably heard about Cody Townsend’s most recent challenge: to ski all 50 lines featured in 50 Classic Ski Descents of North America. From Utah to Nevada, back to Utah and up to Canada, Townsend and crew have been ticking off one North American classic after another this season. In episode 6 of The FIFTY, Townsend, along with Chris Rubens, Canadian Rocky connoisseur Kevin Hjertaas and filmer Bjarne Salen, make a last-minute decision to ski the Aemmer Couloir in Banff National Park. As with most things worth having, this line did not come easy. A sketchy drive, dark start and an eight-mile walk just to get to the base of the couloir made for a memorable sixth pursuit. Stay tuned for more from Townsend and company.
