I don't know about you, but for me, mid-September hits like a freight train. Summer's warmth fades fast and the promise of another ski season looms just over the horizon. The tension is almost unbearable. Waiting patiently is an exhausting game, but it's made a bit easier with every new snowstorm that blankets our favorite peaks.
Over the last few days, four of our favorite resorts in the U.S. have been blanketed in white, marking their first significant storms of the season. Crystal Mountain, Mt. Bachelor, Big Sky Resort and Bridger Bowl Ski Area all received cold weather and precipitation in the highest order. Ski season will be here eventually, so for now, let these photos and videos tide you over.
Crystal Mountain
Washington
While Crystal received a light dusting last week, it was hardly enough to qualify as a real storm. That's not the case this time around. The resort got slammed with upwards of six inches overnight! PNW skiers have clearly gotten an early start on their prayers to Ullr.
Mt. Bachelor
Oregon
It was a scorching hot summer in Oregon, with wildfires ravaging the eastern portion of the state. That just made winter's first appearance all the more meaningful this year. With opening day tentatively scheduled for early December, the team at Mt. Bachelor is hoping this won't be the last September snowfall of the year.
Big Sky Resort
Montana
Every ski resort looks great after a blanket of white, but Lone Peak stands apart from the crowd, literally and figuratively. If you're hunting for Thanksgiving turns, Big Sky is the place to be, with the mountain opening for the 2026/27 season on November 25.
Bridger Bowl Ski Area
Montana
Yes, BBowl recorded five inches of snow back on June 28, but we'll count that as the final storm of last season. The recent snow had Bozeman-based skiers ready for another year riding some of the best inbounds terrain you can find. Bridger typically opens mid-to-late December, so stay tuned for updates depending on conditions.
