If you're still hanging on to ski season, the good news is you're not alone. We're right there with you, squeezing every turn out of winter 2026, but all good things must come to an end. Three of our favorite ski hills, Loveland, Alta and Big Sky, are closing up shop for the season this weekend, with closing day scheduled for April 26.

It's been a fickle season for each of these destinations, but they've managed to hold strong and utilize late-season storms to their advantage. Alta and Loveland have had some half-decent pow days this month, with both ski areas bagging good snow and keeping substantial terrain open. Big Sky has been relegated to weekend operations the last two weeks, but the park has been skiing well under bluebird Montana skies.

Each of these three ski areas is sure to be closing out winter in style this weekend, so get up early and head on out for a few laps and the best aprés of the year. Below you'll find details on events, weather and more.

Alta Ski Area

Utah

Alta may not be ending a record-setting season, but with this recent storm pushing them over the 300-inch mark, their coverage is far from terrible, all things considered. Little Cottonwood Canyon is expecting over a foot of snow through the weekend, so you'd be wise to layer up for the season finale.

Parking reservations are required at Alta on closing day (April 26) from 8 A.M. to 1 P.M. The UTA buses will NOT be running, so get your crew together or make a few new friends and pile in for a carpool! With the absence of Frank this year, it's up to the skiers of Alta to make closing day special. Will a new tradition emerge? Who knows, but we're sure that an Alta Bomb and some good turns will be had by all.

Big Sky Resort

Montana

With Bridger Bowl forced to close early this year, Big Sky has been Southwest Montana's last chance for lift-powered turns this month. The resort has been operating only on weekends for the past 14 days, which has lined up well. Storms have flowed in during the weekdays, with the weekends providing good temps and blue skies.

But that will change with cold smoke coming through closing day. The Ramcharger Chair, Swift Current Chair, Explorer Gondola, Powder Seeker Chair and Tram will be operational April 25 and 26. The park is skiing incredibly well with new features reportedly on the way. If you're looking for aprés action, don't miss Big Sky's final Spring Series event of the year, a free concert from Tinashe next to the Tram terminal beneath Lone Peak.

Loveland Ski Area

Colorado

April 26 will be Lovelands' earliest closing day in decades. But no matter what, you can count on the Loveland faithful to bring smiles and a good time. It's been snowing in the high peaks of the Rockies, and the riding has been nice on the Continental Divide.

Being just 57 miles from Denver, you can bet there will be plenty of people at Loveland getting theirs this weekend, so we'd advise hitting the road early if you want to secure proper parking. The 25th annual Corn Harvest Benefit Party will be going down on April 25, and you can register online now. With live music, a raffle, BBQ lunch and more, it's sure to be a surreal season ender.
