The Best Ski Boots of 2026
Oct 1, 2025
The AR One 130 is the first ski boot to come out of Armada, after five years of meticulous development in partnership with established boot manufacturer Atomic.
At the heart of the AR One 130 lies its unique hybrid cabrio system, featuring two primary components that work in harmony. The large plastic tongue draws inspiration from classic Raichle boots of the 1990s, delivering a progressive flex pattern that gets stiffer as you add more forward pressure. This design mirrors the natural flow of skiing, making it easier to initiate the turn, with more support as you drive deeper.
When entering a turn, cabrio boots can feel less precise than their two-piece counterparts. Armada addresses this limitation by incorporating a short, overlapping cuff that establishes a pronounced engagement point, similar to conventional two-piece boots. This combination delivers the best of both worlds: snappy turn initiation that seamlessly transitions into the progressive flex that’s beloved by cabrio enthusiasts.
The dual-support system allows both the cuff and tongue to share structural responsibilities, enabling Armada to construct the tongue from softer durometer plastic than traditional cabrio designs. This seemingly minor adjustment significantly improves fit and comfort, as the softer tongue wraps around the top of your foot. In contrast, cabrio boots usually need stiff tongues to deliver the correct flex, and in some cases those stiff tongues can cause a crushing sensation over the top of the foot.
The ankle buckle showcases another innovative approach, featuring dual anchor points on the lower shell, positioned above and below the instep. This configuration firmly secures your heel in the pocket while distributing buckle force across two equidistant cables. This reduces instep pressure as compared to single-anchor systems. The increased surface area creates more consistent ankle hold without the pinch points common in traditional single-point closures. Complementing this closure system is a grippy, silicone-like material on the outside of the liner, reducing movement between liner and shell.
