The Kanso 106 is a fresh offering from the young company, Ellis, that has positioned itself as a high-quality, niche offering for big-mountain skiers. The Kanso 106 sits in the middle of the Ellis ski family and serves as the daily driver for skiers who spend their time mostly skiing off the beaten path.
The Kanso 106 features a full poplar wood core supported by a combination of triaxial fiberglass and a reinforced binding area. It’s relatively lightweight when compared to other more material-intensive skis in the big-mountain category and delivers a soft flex with substantial pop. This characteristic stems from both the ski’s core construction and its shape, which is a rocker-camber-rocker profile with a large camber section. The camber accomplishes two things: it gives the ski great pop and provides a long effective edge relative to dual-rockered skis, helping it lock into turns on groomers and off-piste terrain.
That said, the rockered tip and tail wants to be skied with a surfy mentality. This ski is easy to flick around in the trees and moguls. This really opens your skiing experience up to long carves and quick changes of direction to hunt for your favorite natural features.
The Kanso 106 also features one of the most unique graphics on the market. Inspired by the owners’ time in Japan, these skis are eye-catching and beautiful to say the least. Ellis might be new on the scene, but they bring a refreshing feel to the twin-tip, big-mountain category.
