Developed in collaboration with the legendary pro skier Sammy Carlson, the Whitewalker 116 is a very lightweight ski (1,800 grams per ski for the 185 cm length) that excels in deep, untouched snow. While it’s one of Armada’s wider skis, lightweight caruba wood in the core keeps the width-to-weight ratio balanced.
The pronounced rocker in the tip and tail gives the Whitewalker a surfy feel and excellent switch-skiing performance, especially considering the forward mounting point. A full-height sidewall through the middle 75-percent of the ski boosts torsional stiffness, durability and edge hold. The extremities are built with cap construction, which lowers swing weight. This means it’s easy to spin but can still hold an edge fairly well when carving between hits.
If you’re looking to ski fast through chop, this isn’t the ideal tool because it doesn’t have enough backbone to provide stability in tough conditions. A better option for that type of shredding would be the ARV 112. This Whitewalker is built for slaying first tracks at your local resort or, more likely, venturing into the backcountry for untouched lines and cheese wedge sessions. For freestyle-minded rippers who see playful terrain draped in powder as an opportunity to showcase their creativity, the Whitewalker 116 will make your best days even better.
