The new M-Free 100 falls under Dynastar’s freeride ski line and is the narrowest in the lineup, under the M-Free 108 and 112. The M-Free 100 has a balanced flex and feels much more consistently stiff from tip to tail than the old 99, which felt solid through the front two-thirds but was quite soft in the tail. For advanced skiers who wanted a twin-tip ski with a stiffer, more consistent presence, the 99 left something to be desired.
This improvement comes from the second generation of Dynastar’s hybrid wood and PU core, which is also found in the 100’s two bigger siblings. The core provides a smooth ride and allows you to drive through the ski in a way that few twin-tip skis can handle.
The shape of the M-Free 100 stays consistent with past iterations, featuring a long effective edge for a locked grip on firmer snow and slight tail taper to make initiating turns feel seamless. The ski’s construction and shape combine to make for a steady ride on firm conditions. This ski is damp enough to feel stable at higher speeds while providing slightly easier tail release than a directional ski with the same core construction. This enables intermediate and advanced skiers to have more fun in moguls and allows for quick pivots in tight trees.
Despite having rocker at the tip and tail, this ski doesn’t feel particularly playful compared to other skis in its class, which might put off those who enjoy jibbing around the mountain or less experienced skiers who might not have the confidence to muscle a ski at lower speeds. That said, if you’re coming off a more directional ski or you want stability at speed but desire a little more forgiveness when making quick turns, the Dynastar M-Free 100 is an excellent choice as a daily driver.
