There are skiers who prioritize beautiful, precise turns over everything else and those skiers need a particular instrument to get the job done. Enter Atomic’s Maven 103 CTI: the in-bounds ski of choice for Tahoe-based big-mountain legend Amie Engerbretson.
A women’s-specific version of the all-mountain Maverick, the Maven series sports the same directional shape and long effective edge with less metal. This lightens the load of the ski for smaller individuals, while carbon and Titanal uphold the core’s integrity in variable snow. The weight of the Maven 103 CTI—1,610 grams per ski at 170 cm—works great with a pin or hybrid alpine touring binding for sidecountry expeditions
Our testers all agreed that the Maven 103 CTI is wide enough to enjoy a modest layer of new snow, but this ski was designed to excel at the resort. It thrives on wide-open slopes where you can open it up and let the ski run. When skiing aggressively, it handles transitions from tight, technical terrain to wide open steeps with impressive consistency, but gets a bit squirrelly on bullet proof hardpack. For a comparable ride with even more stability, Atomic’s Maverick features extra metal, which makes a huge difference. Ultimately, the Maven 103 CTI is made for fast and smooth cruising at the resort and in the sidecountry.
