Founded in 2024, Ellis was started by industry insiders Kevin Schaefer and Sean O’Brien, who spent two years prototyping after working at brands like DPS, Blackcrows and Never Summer. The Meraki 112 is the powder ski in a tight, three-ski lineup intended for freeriding. This ski targets untouched morning turns that inevitably turn into a tracked-out afternoon.
The poplar and fiberglass construction with a full-height sidewall contribute to a durable build and substantial feel underfoot. For the ski’s shape, Ellis opts for an elliptical sidecut, which resembles two bananas back-to-back. This design has a tighter turn radius underfoot that gradually opens up toward the tips and tails—ideal for a utility powder ski.
This ski has an intuitive feel in deep snow but doesn’t compromise edge control as the freshies turn to chop. Additionally, the ski’s substantial tip and the tail rocker profile provide a fun surfy feel in powder with effortless float and maneuverability. For the typical in-bounds powder hunter, this mid-stiff ski means extending your day beyond the first few untracked runs.
The Meraki 112 works best for skiers who make decisions based on snow forecasts, but appreciate versatility. It thrives in open bowls, glades and fresh snow, geared towards skiers looking for a designated powder twin with a burly feel.
