The 2026 Salomon QST 100 represents the fourth generation of this iconic line, and a complete reinvention. Salomon has shifted the QST collection to focus on improved energy transfer and torsional rigidity through new construction and introduces a unisex philosophy across the board. The QST 100 emerges with a distinct personality within Salomon’s freeride collection, replacing the very popular QST 98.
On-snow testing through technical trees revealed a ski that feels just as light and maneuverable as the previous QST 98, while gaining stability in variable conditions where the 98 could feel out of its element. The full poplar wood core with cork dampening inserts, basalt stringers and carbon/flax laminate creates a stable platform without the need for metal. The new construction profile strikes a coveted balance for a smooth feel on groomers and landings, while providing enough energy to navigate technical terrain with precision. At slower speeds, the ski feels muted, but once allowed to run, it reveals its true character—a plush, smooth platform that absorbs dynamic terrain with responsive intuition. It possesses that elusive “let me do the work” quality.
The redesigned tail releases more predictably when you need to pivot out of tight spots, though it doesn’t drive through turn completion with quite the same authority as the 98’s more directional tail. What makes this ski appealing in the crowded 100-mm category is how light it is for what it can do—at around 1,880 grams it’s notably lighter than most 100-mm all-mountain skis that typically weigh 2,000-plus grams, while still being versatile without the weight penalty you usually see in skis that try to handle everything.
Salomon has created something notably different from the beloved QST 98. Where the old ski excelled at quick turn transitions, the 100 prioritizes easier release and enhanced maneuverability while still managing a substantial amount of stability for its shape and construction. The result is a ski that will feel familiar to QST fans, but skis with more confidence in challenging terrain—an evolution that shows where Salomon sees all-mountain skiing going.Â
