Along with a core upgrade, the new Salomon QST 94 received an improved shape with the most notable change to the tail. A prominent squared-off design gives the ski remarkable energy out of turns, which pairs nicely with its directional shape.
This ski excels on firm snow, particularly groomers. It’s not a frontside carver with lots of metal and a flat tail that delivers demanding power, nor is it a really soft twin-tip freestyle ski—it sits somewhere in between in the best way. Getting in and out of turns proves remarkably easy compared to torsionally stiff carving skis, yet the ski feels planted and stable on edge. A cork damplifier in the tip and tail, where chatter is most likely to occur, absorbs vibrations for a consistently quiet, composed feel.
Off piste, this ski falls short in fresh snow performance, and when handling more variable terrain there are better options. However, it loves the moguls where the same characteristics that make it so enjoyable on groomers transfer to chunky bumps.
If you’re an advanced skier seeking a dedicated firm snow ski with a slightly more approachable shape, this ski delivers pure fun. The QST 94 would also serve as an amazing all-mountain ski as it crushes the groomers without being overly demanding while providing an excellent platform to begin your off-piste journey.
