Directional skis with an appetite for playfulness are few and far between these days, but the Elan Ripstick 108 embodies this rare combination. Introduced in 2025, the Ripstick 108 emerged as Elan’s consolidation of the widest of the Ripstick collection, functionally replacing both the Ripstick 106 and 116.
At the heart of the Ripstick 108 lies Elan’s lightweight construction combining carbon rods and wood in the core, delivering responsiveness while maintaining a playful character. The familiar Ripstick DNA shines through with generous tip rocker for float and tail rocker for maneuverability, all wrapped in the same directional shape that has made narrower models in the collection so successful.
What truly distinguishes the Ripstick 108 is its flex pattern. The substantially softer front third creates exceptional maneuverability in tighter terrain and makes for easy slower-speed turns in powder. A relatively stiff tail makes the ski responsive when releasing turns and provides a nice backbone when carrying speed. This combination proves particularly effective on days when you’re transitioning between solid coverage and variable depths.
However, this soft tip does present some limitations. We found the ski can feel unstable when powerful turns are required on firm snow, as the softer tip lacks authority and can fold under pressure. For skiers prioritizing groomer performance or those who frequently encounter icy conditions, Elan’s narrower Ripstick models provide more confidence-inspiring edge grip. The Ripstick 108 offers a unique combination of float and finesse for intermediate to advanced skiers seeking a light, snappy and playful directional ski.
