This freeride monster has been a staple in some of the best freeride segments and competitions in recent memory and for good reason—this ski is a great fit for the modern-day freerider. Rossignol has found a great combination of weight, stability underfoot and tip and tail flex to create a ski that feels damp and surfy for the creative freeride skier.
The core can be divided into two distinct sections: the center third of the ski features poplar wood and metal that keeps the ski feeling stout and quiet. The metal does most of the work when you hit higher speeds in technical areas of the mountain, keeping the ski feeling controlled and smooth, which in turn keeps you feeling confident in your equipment. The tip and tail sections are substantially softer and feature a combination of wood and a PU honeycomb design. This keeps what would normally be a pretty heavy ski feeling lightweight, and this has a lot to do with Rossignol’s ability to keep the swing weight low.
The shape and profile follow the same trend as the core. The ski features ample tip and tail rocker with substantial camber underfoot, enabling the ski to carry lots of energy and power when making turns and speeding down steeps while also making it easily maneuverable with great powder performance thanks to a shorter effective edge. The Sender Free 110 also skis switch extremely well and feels very symmetrical and balanced thanks to the 7 mm difference between the tip and tail rocker. This build caters surprisingly well to spring park laps, with the skis large surface area for stomping big landings.Â
If you’re looking for a more traditional big-mountain ski, you should definitely look elsewhere as this ski’s symmetrical shape, freestyle-oriented core and profile might be off-putting when making round turns and skiing moguls at the resort. That said, this ski wasn’t built with that category of skier in mind.Â
If you’re a skier who likes dropping cliffs and getting creative off your favorite wind lip, the ski’s balanced feel and soft tip and tail are the perfect match while still having enough ski underfoot to stomp chunky landings.Â
