The ladies lined up under the lights for a nighttime big air competition to see which 12 athletes would move on to the 2026 Olympic Big Air finals, scheduled for Monday, February 16. With a stacked roster of 27 women, this was anyone's day for the taking, and some faired better than others in the best two of out of three runs. While there have been murmurings on the web about the size of the big air jump, the girls didn't seem to have any problem finding the speed to throw their biggest tricks.
Megan Oldham (CAN) came out swinging on run one with a switch double cork 1260, being the first woman to break into the 90s with a score of 91.25. Kirsty Muir (GBR) put herself in second place with a double cork 14, ahead of Eileen Gu (86.00) with the same trick, and Mathilde Gramaud (SUI) put down a near-perfect switch double cork 1080 for 85.25. Rell Hardwood is without an ACL right now and took a heavy, heavy slam on run one but teammate Grace Henderson stomped a double cork 1080 blunt and the judges rewarded her for it with an 86.75—the third highest score after the first run.
A lot of the girls struggled to put down their second trick—Sarah Hoefflin was unable to land her switch double cork 1260 on her first two runs and that is the unfortunate end for the Swiss rider at the 2026 Winter Olympics. Gu came up short on a double cork 1080 blunt and Oldham squatted out another double cork 1080 but both ladies looked to their third run to round out their overall scores. Muir and Gremaud both laced their tricks, a double cork 1080 and double cork 1260, respectively, to secure their spots in the final.
After the third and final run, it was Megan Oldham with the highest score, followed by Gu, Gremaud and Muir to round out the top four of 12 moving on to finals on Monday night. Unfortunately, not a single U.S. woman was able to qualify, Henderson landing in 14th, 17-year-old Avery Krumme in 19th, Marin Hamill in 23rd and Harwood in 24th.
