We’ve all seen the closing day pond skim experience. A man-made pond measuring no more than three basketball hoops in length, surrounded by onlookers, with music blasting and ski patrollers standing guard. Some could argue that a few resorts host skims that get a bit more rowdy than others, but at the end of the day, you have an idea of what you’re in for. This is not that.
Norwegian skier Benjamin Forthun has been making the rounds on the internet thanks to a video of him conquering a mind-blowing pond skim in the highest reaches of Norway, not far from the Fonna Glacier Ski Resort. While the ski area itself has recently gone through financial turmoil and its fabled summer operations have stalled, there is still plenty of snow in the peaks.
Forthun took full advantage of this, revisiting one of his favorite stomping grounds. He’s attempted and succeeded in crossing this pond before, but this time he brought out the tape measure and was surprised at the results. Crossing 367 feet is no small task, but after several rounds of fierce tumbles, he brought the vision to life. We’re not sure if this is a new world-record, but there’s a damn good chance it might be.
