Don't let the spring blues get you down, because winter is just kicking off in the Southern Hemisphere. Ski Portillo, Chile, has officially announced it will be operating from June 20 through September 26, 2026.
Portillo has long been a FREESKIER favorite, drawing us in for years thanks to the incredible skiing and irreplaceable charm. Last year, Portillo continued upgrading its accommodations, with renovations to the Octagon Lodge, Inca Lodge, and C Chalets, bringing a new vibrancy to the iconic resort.
With 77 seasons in the books, Portillo has a fabled history that puts it on par with any ski area in the world. Shots of pow laps down to the famous lake, Laguna del Inca, have been featured in the pages of FREESKIER for years. Videos and stories of die-hard skiers tackling the infamous Super C Couloir, including an epic tale from none other than Dahron Rahlves last year, have been told around the world.
Few places deliver views (and turns) like Ski Portillo

You'll find Ski Portillo in the Chilean Andes Mountains, about two hours northeast of Santiago. There are nonstop flights from North America throughout the summer months, making it the perfect balance of accessibility and remoteness.
Storms can be intense in the Andes, and whiteout conditions are almost guaranteed if you catch a good cycle. For that reason, it's nearly a necessity to snag accommodations at the resort. Luckily, you can find plenty of deals, including packages that bundle lodging, four meals a day, lift tickets and amenities all in one.
We'll be sure to update as more information around snow conditions and weather forecasts becomes clear in the coming weeks. And for a detailed picture of the Ski Portillo experience, check out this 2025 piece from FREESKIER contributor Andy Cochrane.
