A gnarly windstorm blew through western Idaho last week, downing trees, disrupting outdoor activities, and creating irreparable damage to one of the towers on Tamarack Resort's Tamarack Express lift. The lift runs from the base to mid-mountain and is the main summer lift for scenic rides and the bike park. The team at Tamarack worked tirelessly to get their entire summer resort open by the Memorial Day Holiday, including the bike park, the golf course and the new marina on Lake Cascade, which offers boat rentals and 100 slips. The storm blew in just four days after Tamarack opened for the summer season.
After assessing the damage to tower 14 and working closely with the manufacturer, the tower was deemed irreparable and needs to be replaced, which means shutting down the newly opened bike park. While it felt like a gut punch to the Tamarack team, they are already hard at work replacing the tower. It's estimated to take three to five weeks to complete, but the resort plans to open the Tamarack Express as soon as it's ready—sometime between late June and early July—and operate it seven days a week for the remainder of the season.
All other summer activities at Tamarack Resort, like all 25-plus miles of Tamarack's cross-country bike and hike trails, golfing and boating down at the new marina, are still open and operating every day of the week. This lift closure only affects the Tamarack bike park.
