As skiers, we aren’t often branded as ‘misfits’. Usually, that’s left to our friends rocking the single plank on the mountain. Ironically, that’s exactly what bred one of the best ski helmets in the game. Born in Norway as a counterculture movement protesting the ban of skateboarding, Sweet Protection is forged in being different. Built by athletes demanding a higher standard for safety in their sports, Sweet protection saw a fault in the action-sports industry and took it upon themselves to fix it and let us all play another day.Â
This year marks a quarter of a century since the brand’s inception in Europe and in punk-rock fashion, they are celebrating with a Block Party. Limited edition runs of the fan-favorite Trooper 2Vi helmet for skiing, Bushwacker 2Vi and Falconer helmets for biking, the Strutter whitewater kayaking helmet alongside their Boondock RIG goggles. Each piece of gear is truly unique, employing a hydro-dip process to apply the Block Party art.Â

To test the brand new gear in true Colorado fashion, Sweet invited us on a classic multi-sport day: morning ski laps at Arapahoe Basin, followed by afternoon mountain biking in Idaho Springs. It was a cloudier early season day with some sun peeking through the clouds, and even in the tricky light I was able to see the snow incredibly clearly. The RIG technology Sweet uses in their lenses filters out not only UV light, but also blue light, reducing fatigue on your eyes and letting you focus on what really matters: spotting those ever-present early season ice patches.Â

Putting on a Sweet helmet for the first time, I immediately noticed the difference in feel from my daily driver. The helmet felt burly without being cumbersome and was snug and secure, even without a balaclava. Needless to say, I’ll be rocking the Trooper 2Vi for the rest of this season (and it’s not just because of the cool graphic).Â
If you're looking to rock the best of the best this winter and look cool doing it, join the Block Party and celebrate 25 years of living to play another day.
Stay tuned to our channels tomorrow when we pair up with Sweet Protection to get one lucky winner a helmet and goggle set-up of their own.
