When the snow starts coming down, most of us can’t help but abandon everyday life (or class in my case) and chase it. Matchstick Productions’ (MSP) 2025 film After the Snowfall plays into the primal pull of powder and puts on display the core of ski culture today from the pros to the everyday joes.
After the Snowfall weaves together the lives and stories of skiing legends Mark Abma, Caite Zeliff, Nico Porteous, Finn Bilous amongst many others. The film equally celebrates the massive strides pros are making for skiing as well as the die-hard locals keeping the flame alive at their own resorts. It’s not just about what they’re doing on skis, but why they do it.
The film shows out on the cinematic front, with on-location shooting from the North American rockies to the Norwegian Alps and the steep spines of Alaska to the deep powder of Myoko, Japan.
While MSP is known for high-adrenaline ski films, After the Snowfall digs more into the humanity behind skiing. That doesn’t mean any fewer crazy lines, just more of the mentality behind the powder-hungry maniacs willing to send anything for a good time.
