Last week we got a taste of what's on the docket from Teton Gravity Research this fall. Now, it's Matchstick's turn to show us what they've been working on. The MSP Films team just released the trailer for their 2026 film, "The Way Out." The project dives into a tale we've heard before, but one we're happy to tune back in to. What's special about skiing? Is it really just the adrenaline that keeps us hooked, or is there more behind the curtain? That's the story MSP is diving into this year, exploring the many nuances that keep us anchored to this lifestyle.
These questions are answered by some of the most qualified individuals on the planet - the best freeskiers, those who follow the snow year-round and preach it like gospel. Featuring Logan Pehota, Xander Guldman, Craig Murray, Lucy Leishman, Tonje Kvivik, Janelle Yip, Ben Richards, Marcus Goguen, Nikolai Schirmer, Dylan Siggers, Manon Loschi and many more, this is sure to be one of the year's most stacked film lineups.
From British Columbia to Japan, Norway to Alaska, the crew got after it. Four minutes is a solid run time for a trailer, so it's safe to assume if these are the shots we're seeing now, there's some true heaters stored away for the full movie. Matchstick Productions returns with their 34th annual ski film, The Way Out, an action-packed tribute to the culture and lifestyle of skiing.
What makes skiing special goes far beyond the fleeting thrill of dropping into a line. It's the deep, elemental relationship with nature that sets mountain culture apart from any traditional activity. For skiers, this isn't just a sport, we live to ski, and ski to live.
The Way Out drops you right into the action across the globe, from heavy Alaskan spine lines to local backyard laps in Whistler. It represents a path toward total freedom, whether tracking Hoji, Chris Rubens, and Mark Abma across the iconic Swiss Alps, or capturing breakout skier Lucy Leishman storming through Japan's deep powder with three legendary freeskiers. The verdict is simple: the soul of skiing isn't dead. It's alive and well, wherever the snow is falling.
