Who celebrates their 88th anniversary by going skiing? Alta, that's who. For nearly a century, the powder haven of Little Cottonwood Canyon has been serving up deep laps on high boy, early mornings heading up the Wildcat Lift and late nights in the Peruvian Lodge.

But this winter, the ski area is celebrating a massive milestone in style, ringing in 88 years of iconic ski culture with a call for one and all to come make a few signature powder 8s. And the good news is that you're invited to the party.

Powder 8s are a legendary ski tradition all about community and, of course, scoring as many pow turns as possible. All you need is a proper pair of pow planks, a good friend to arc side-by-side with, and an Alta pass. Lift tickets are on sale now for the 2025/26 season, with Alta available on the Ikon Pass.

Some things never get old at Alta

Many would say that Alta is the quintessential ski area, and they would be right. The blend of nostalgia and modernity is unlike anywhere else, and the caliber of skiers that call this place home is second to none. Pro skiers Tim McChesney, Piper Kunst, Brita Sigourney, Andrew Pollard, Grant Howard and so many more have decided to call Alta home for one reason or another.

The ample snowfall and rolling terrain form a mountain that transitions into a playground every winter. Just check out this game of SLVSH between Isaac Freeland and Tanner Boudreau to see firsthand how fun Alta can be.

If you're still on the fence, it's worth noting that the ski area has remained one of the most affordable in North America. The independently-owned hotels scattered around the base, such as the Snowpine, Peruvian and Rustler Lodges, are all priced at an incredible value, and an on-mountain lunch won't break the bank.

At the end of the day, there's no reason not to grab the crew and head to Alta to celebrate 88 years of face shots and good times. We'll see you for a lap on the Wildcat Lift this winter!
