Ben Richards has been making waves in freeride for several years, recently capping off a legendary season on the Freeride World Tour, stacking highlight-worthy clips at each stop. His balanced, technical riding and a deep bag of tricks is a rare blend that leaves you wondering how much smoother skiing can get. But Richards isn’t alone in pursuing this masterful style of freeride. There’s another Kiwi taking notes.

At just 15 years old, Jasper Rogers is one of freeskiing’s clear rising stars. He’s watched and learned from Richards for years now as the two have evolved a mentor-and-apprentice-like relationship. While they’ve spent years tackling the variable terrain of Treble Cone, New Zealand, together, they’ve yet to put out a feature project. “Don’t Quote Me” is their first attempt, and it’s fair to say it’s an incredible start.

“I have been coaching Jasper back here in Treble Cone for the past few years and have watched his skiing progress massively,” Richards told FREESKIER. “When I had the opportunity to take him out in Revelstoke for his first real filming opportunity, of course I was going to say yes. The idea was to help teach him about working with filmers and navigating the dangers of filming/skiing in the backcountry. Fair to say he’s a fast learner.”

Rogers didn’t shy away from the daunting mission. “I was so stoked to fly up to Revelstoke at the start of the season to meet up with Ben, Hunter Paull from Hunt Cinema and some other crew to work on my first film. We scored some of the best snow I’ve ever skied and the whole trip was so epic. I’m really happy with how it turned out. The crew was super talented. Ben talked me through all of my lines. He’s so good to bounce ideas off and super fun to ski with.”

This one truly is the perfect storm. Great snow, high caliber riding and outstanding cinematography make “Don’t Quote Me” five minutes you’ll want to relieve a few more times.
