There are many downsides to the tsunami of content we see today. One positive that arises from the onslaught of good skiing is the fact that it makes sensational creativity stand apart. With so much talent, real creativity is needed to distinguish oneself from the rest. For the last few years, Kuura Koivisto has been one of those stand-alone riders. His latest work, "Voilà," is perhaps his best yet, and that's saying something.
With Arttu Heikkinen taking the lead from behind the lens, each second of this seven-and-a-half-minute project feels like it was meticulously mapped out, presenting an incredible look at every victory (and failure) encountered at every turn. As was mentioned repeatedly in " Dream ," Kuura's superpower isn't raw talent, but rather his inability to quit.
Shot over the course of two years, "Voilà" is a testament to the dedication of both Heikkinen and Koivisto. It's polished, but authentic, original and creative all the same. Every other shot feels like it could be an ender, but that's no surprise. Per usual, this pair is an unstoppable combo, and let's hope there's more on the horizon from them this winter.
