The Freeride World Tour (FWT) has canceled the 2026 Georgia Pro stop due to dangerous avalanche conditions in the region. Originally given a weather window from February 22-28, the Tour organizers saw the weak snowpack as a long-term problem and decided to play it safe as the season approaches the midway point.
"Following extensive evaluation by FWT officials, mountain safety experts, and local professionals, current conditions do not meet the standards required to ensure athlete and staff safety," the official press release stated. "Multiple venue and scheduling options were carefully assessed before reaching this decision, and the structural instability observed would not sufficiently improve within the available window. As always, safety and fair competition remain our top priorities."
The Tour stated that they would look into rescheduling the Georgia Pro competition during the upcoming Fieberbrunn weather window, from March 5-10. No confirmation has been received thus far. While certainly not ideal, the news underscores the FWT's commitment to rider safety. It takes courage to stand up and announce when things are too dangerous, even though the response might be mixed.
We appreciate all the hard work of everyone on the FWT staff, including local Georgian guides. Stay tuned for updates on the next FWT stops. Watch the video below for a detailed breakdown of the conditions.
