There will be five new resort options for Ikon Pass riders in the Italian Alps this winter, as Courmayeur Mont Blanc, Cervino Ski Paradise, La Thuile Espace San Bernardo, Monterosa Ski and Pila have all joined Alterra's mega pass. With these additions, there are now 17 distinct Italian ski areas on the Ikon Pass.
The five ski resorts are all located within Italy's Valle d’Aosta region, otherwise known as the Aosta Valley. This rugged collection of towering peaks is located in the northwest corner of the Italian Alps and shares a border with both France and Switzerland.
It should come as no surprise that these mountains hold some of Italy's most prized big mountain and freeride skiing. We saw Nikolai Schirmer demonstrate this last winter, as he found what appeared to be "The Most Efficient Pow Skiing in the World" off the Skyway Monte Bianco at Courmayeur Mont Blanc. We highly reccomened checking out his video to get a scale for the skiing the Aosta Valley has to offer.
But these resorts offer more than just heart-pumping steep 'n deep. The culture and cuisine of northern Italy are second to none, with deep historical ties to both the mountains and the food.
"We are proud and excited to join the Ikon Pass community," said Danilo Chatrian, Courmayeur Mont Blanc Funivie General Director and project representative in Valle d’Aosta. "This partnership opens the door to U.S. skiers and riders, offering the opportunity to discover the breathtaking scenery and exceptional winter experiences that make Valle d’Aosta a true hidden gem of the Alps. From iconic peaks and world-class skiing to gourmet cuisine and authentic alpine charm, we are thrilled to share the unique spirit of our special region in Italy with a wider global audience."
The new access will also let riders dart between Italy, France and Switzerland. With Ikon, you can ski directly from Cervino Ski Paradise to Zermatt Matterhorn, or take a short trip from Courmayeur to Chamonix through the Mont Blanc tunnel.
This all comes as the 2026 Winter Olympics inch closer, with the Games taking place in four unique areas across Italy. If you're considering emptying that savings account and making the trip of a lifetime, an Ikon Pass is well worth it, considering you can access these mountains plus so many others in the area.
