It may be mid-May, but don’t tell that to Mother Nature. She summoned a behemoth spring snow storm that’s descended upon Colorado, dropping buckets of snow on the Centennial State. Copper Mountain’s snow stake shows that over 24 inches of frozen goodness has already fallen in Summit County, and the forecast calls for more of the same through Saturday morning. While Arapahoe Basin is the only ski area still operating for the season, there are plenty of backcountry zones still holding on to winter. Take a look at the snow totals below (accurate as of 9:40 a.m. MST) and if you plan on hitting the backcountry in the coming days, be aware of the large amount of new snow and check out the Colorado Avalanche Information Center’s statewide forecast, here.
