It's time to grab your snorkel and head to the Great White North. North America has seen a wild start to winter 2025/26. The East Coast has seen pow, rain and more pow, the Central Rockies have been dry and the West Coast has been downright wet and warm. We're seeing shifts in these patterns (praise Ullr), but overall, the region that has been the clear winner so far has been the interior of British Columbia.
Some of the most iconic mountains and resorts in all of skiing can be found here. Throughout the Selkirk, Monashee and Purcell Mountain Ranges, the snow has been bountiful this winter as cold air and ample precipitation have met to produce incredible conditions.
In Golden, British Columbia, Kicking Horse Mountain Resort has been the recipient of this good weather, racking up feet upon feet of snow. At the start of the New Year, the resort announced that it had officially recorded the snowiest December in the mountain's history, logging 340 centimeters of snow. (That's over 133 inches or 11 feet of fresh for those of us who don't speak metric).
"From first chair to last call, the conditions are nothing short of legendary," KHMR proudly declared in an Instagram post on January 5, 2026. No other resort compares to the steep and deep offered at Kicking Horse. The chutes and couloirs found off the T1, T2, CPR and Redemption ridgelines, as well as in the Whitehall and Ozone faces, are simply unmatched. If you're up for a bit of hiking, these zones should be high on any bucket list.
To celebrate, we thought we'd take a look back at FREESKIER's ON LOCATION mission to KHMR. We got an up-close look at the third stop of the 2025 Freeride World Tour, linked with local rippers and perused the welcoming town of Golden.
