Winter said, "I didn't hear the bell!" Mammoth Mountain and much of the Sierra Nevada Mountains were hit with a monster spring storm over the last few days, dropping several feet of snow on the high peaks that run along eastern California. If you were looking to break out the golf shoes and stash the skis, you might have to wait a minute.

The height of the storm brought very few pow turns, as high winds whipped through the rugged landscape and brought most skiers to a halt. "It ain't summer yet," declared our new favorite Mammoth team member, Rod, as the storm raged on Saturday.

But the clouds finally parted on Monday, revealing blue skies and bountiful turns for those who stuck it out through the weekend and a storm total of 31 inches. This is usually the time of year that Mammoth commits to its self-titled second season, where park laps and bike laps go hand-in-hand. Things look a bit different this year.

And there's still plenty of skiing left out west, as Mammoth has pledged to stay open through Memorial Day weekend. This latest offering will surely help their cause, letting the Unbound crew continue to craft ingenious features through the end of the season.

Ikon Pass holders can also save 33% on lodging at Mammoth through the end of the season. Whether you're after hot laps in the park, fresh groomers or another surprise spring storm (you never know), now is the time to map out a mission to the Sierra's!
