Mammoth Mountain to Stay Open Through Memorial Day 2026

Despite the spring-like skiing conditions, Mammoth Mountain's latest snowstorm has given them the confidence to stay open through Memorial Day 2026.

Spring skiing has started at many resorts out West, but that is not stopping Mammoth Mountain, which announced it will stay open through at least Memorial Day 2026. The mountain recently had a massive snowstorm in late February, dropping over five feet of snow, helping to make the resort's “second season” look promising.

Mother nature did not cooperate with the resort’s plan to open on Nov. 12, 2025, despite the 16 inches of snow; the sun’s heat proved that wasn’t enough. The resort opened on Nov. 20, 2025, and precipitation remained light in November but picked up in December, bringing a Christmas miracle of three to five feet of snow across the region.

At 11,053 feet with 3,500 skiable acres, Mammoth Mountain possesses the highest summit of any California resort. The resort averages around 400 inches of snow, but the 22/23 season blew everyone out of the water with 700 inches at the Main Lodge and 900 inches at the summit. This allowed the resort to stay open for a historic 275-day season, closing on Aug. 6, 2023.

Wooly Mammoth Pond Skim

Wooly braves the Mammoth Mountain pond skim. Will you?

On average, the mountain usually closes in late May or mid-June. Last season the mountain received only 286 inches of snow but were able to remain open until mid-June. Even though the resort's snowpack is technically below average for this time of year, Mammoth seems confident it can stay open through Memorial Day.

Mammoth’s base depth as of March 2 is 76 inches with a total season amount of 244 inches. The resort has 179 out of 180 trails open and 23 out of 25 lifts open.

Even though the mountain has experienced a warmer-than-average winter, according to Snow-forecast, the snowiest week at Mammoth Mountain is the first week of March. If this is true, then the resort might be able to push through to a mid-June close. That means one of the best spring park scenes on the planet will be rocking well into the warmer months of the year. If you're on the hunt for blue skies, pristine jumps and pink metal, there's no where better.

Of course, it wouldn't be spring skiing with a proper pond skim. The annual Mammoth pond skim will be on April 19, from 8 AM to 5 PM. The last event Mammoth is scheduled to have for the ski season is a boarding for breast cancer event which will be held on May, 3. Come on out for a great cause!
