If you've been tuning into FREESKIER for years, you'll know that we're big proponents of the messages spread by Drew Petersen. A Summit County, Colorado local, Petersen has been at the heart of one of the ski industry's most dynamically changing regions. He's helped shape the culture in more ways than one, from filming legendary segments with Salomon TV to becoming a leading voice in the conversation about mental health awareness through his words, films and more.
All this to say that Petersen has seen and participated in many different areas of the ski industry. His insight is valuable and his experience is priceless. So when we heard he was starting a new podcast, we immediately took notice and began tuning in as he dropped his first few episodes.
The concept is simple: Petersen and his guest take a chairlift ride with a ski-pole mic and a GoPro, and discuss whatever comes to mind! His guests have ranged from Arapahoe Basin COO Al Henceroth to Olympic halfpipe skier Zoe Atkin, from legendary big mountain skier Angel Collinson to Mr. Steep Skiing himself, Chris Davenport.
This isn't a four-hour deep dive. While we're all here for a nice long discussion, sometimes it's great to get right into it and hear a person's thoughts off the cuff. That's what we get here: episodes are 10 to 20 minutes long, and the questions are direct and to the point.
"[The podcast] has been my main focus media/content/creation-wise for this year... and probably the long-term future," Petersen told FREESKIER. "It's been really fun to finally get it out there in the world, and I hope everyone who tunes in enjoys it."
While there are already plenty of podcasts floating around the digital universe, DP is someone we fully endorse for the mic. During his time as a professional skier, he's juggled the hype of scoring pow around the world with the real weight of depression. Over the last few years, nobody has done more in skiing to bring mental health awareness to the forefront than Drew. His film, "Feel It All," is a powerful reminder of the burdens we all carry and the importance of being open to conversation and taking the right steps towards healing.
It's this diverse experience that makes him such a pleasure to listen to. Check out the list of episodes that are out now below, or head to your preferred streaming platform to tune in. And be sure to stay tuned for more on the Drew Petersen Podcast in the near future!
