Mammoth Mountain has become the first ski area in North America to lock in their 2025/26 opening day. The iconic northern California resort expects to start spinning lifts on November 14, 2025. Let the 100 day countdown begin!
"Celebrate with us as we kick off our 72nd season and fire up the lifts on November 14," said Mammoth's official announcement. "Join Woolly for the annual first chair and banner breakthrough followed by a toast to the new season."

Last year, Mammoth was able to keep its season going well into summer, closing its lifts for skiing on June 15 after extending operations. The resort only recieved around 260" of snow, falling far short of the 400" yearly average. But a cold spring helped preserve a deep base, and the hard working park crew at Mammoth Unbound delivered one of the best spring builds around.
As of now, winter 2025/26 will be a toss up for California and most of the Pacific Northwest. The latest predictions from Open Snow and NOAA show a mix of outcomes all leaning towards a Weak La Niña or ENSO Neutral winter.
The former would imply heavy precipitation for the northern West Coast, while the latter would likely result in a ridge pressure system, which is not favorable for larger snow storms.
We'll keep you posted on when lifts begin turning at your favorite resorts. Whether it's pow or hard pack, there's reason to smile, because we'll be skiing... soon.
