Another beautiful bluebird day rolled out of bed this morning for the women's slopestyle finals at the 2026 Winter Olympics at Livigno Snow Park. With a bit more familiarity of the course and the speed, the girls laid it all out on the snow for Olympic glory.
Differing from the best of two runs in qualifications, finals gave the girls three chances to lock in their best and highest-scoring run. After run one, Eileen Gu (CHN) led the field with a technical rail section, including a switch 270 disaster and a 450 on, and an impressive jump combination starting with a switch misty 900 into a double cork 1080 and finishing off with a double cork 1260 for a score of 86.58. Mathilde Gremaud (SUI) came out swinging, closely tailing Gu for the top spot with a score of 83.60 and Canada's Megan Oldham held down the podium with a 69.76.
On run 2, it became clear the battle for the top spot would be a repeat of the 2022 Beijing Games. Gu did not improve her score, which gave Gremaud the chance to take the upper hand. Displaying a clean and confident rail section and then sealing the deal with three double corks in a row—1080, switch 1260, 1260, respectively— Gremaud just barely outscored Gu with 86.96. Oldham took a huge slam on her second run but held on to the third-place position.
Gu was yet again unable to improve her score on the third and final run, falling on the first rail trick that seemed to be giving her grief all day. Oldham laced her third run with 270s on and off the rails both ways, a double cork 1260 to switch double cork 1260 and finished it off with a right side 900 to give her third place position a bit more breathing room with a score of 74.46. Kirsty Muir was just shy of overtaking with a massive 1440 on the final jump—the biggest rotation of the day but only good enough for a fourth-place score of 74.04. Gremaud, the last to drop, tied a Swiss flag around her neck and gave the venue one hell of a victory lap.
Gremaud is the first woman to win back-to-back Olympic Slopestyle golds, etching her name in Olympic history forever. Gu will now switch her focus to retaining her Olympic golds in Big Air and Halfpipe. 17-year-old Avery Krumme represented the United States, giving it her all and landing in 11th overall. The future is bright for the young one!
