Today marks 10 years since the passing of one of freeskiing’s pioneers, Shane McConkey. Devoted to a life of absolute insanity, both on skis and off, McConkey forged himself in skiing’s history with his insatiable appetite for fun and his incredible ability to make the seemingly impossible ski stunts, possible. From coining the term “freeskiing,” to being at the forefront of the development of the first powder ski, in his 39 years of life, McConkey developed a legacy that will last for decades to come. In the tribute video, above, from Matchstick Productions, it’s clear McConkey is missed by many but his never-too-serious spirit still lives on.
