There's a lot of hype around K2's new 2027 Mindbender line, and for good reason. It's light, damp and energetic—a paradoxical formula made possible by a new piece of tech, dubbed Dark Matter, that dampens the ski without the weight of a sheet of titanal.
But at the end of the day, the only thing that matters is whether it skis well or not. With Entourage director Jack Price behind the lens, K2 athletes Jasper Skidmore and Daniel Johnson set out to test that question last winter. As can be expected with a Price project, the new "Mindbender Live Score" is anything but a normal ski film.
Clocking in at just under five minutes long, the new cut gives a detailed look at what's possible on both the 2027 Mindbender 111 and 101. From backcountry kickers to spring park laps in Whistler, both Skidmore and Johnson boast some of the most distinct styles in the game. The entire piece is accompanied by stellar live music, performed by Roland Danemann and crew, with mixing by Chris Weir .
Ski releases can historically be... stale. But it's clear that K2 is putting it's trust in creative minds, taking a chance not only on fresh ski design, but on the marketing and content they roll out alongside. It's a formula we hope other brands will take inspiration from in the future. And if you've been looking for a lightweight, capable ski, the 2027 Mindbender 101 and 111 should both be on your radar.
Look out for the full story "The Secrets of Dark Matter" dropping late November in FREESKIER Magazine Volume 29, Issue 2.
