It was only fitting that Banff Sunshine Village would end its 2025/26 season with a few blower pow days. The resort had a historic winter this year. While much of the West struggled to accumulate and hold snow, Banff Sunshine was able to have both its earliest opening on record and its latest closing day, delivering 129 days of riding and over 400 inches (+1,000 cm) of snow.
Closing weekend was already on the books, with no extensions granted despite over 15 inches of snow falling in the last few days. The final days of riding brought a full party, as Canadians flooded the mountain for the 2026 Slush Cup and SlushShine Rail Jam. Cold temps didn't stop the party.
This was just the latest notch in a storied spring for Banff Sunshine. The resort also hosted Level 1's SuperUnknown on a last-minute whim, and thanks to great snow conditions and a talented park crew, they pulled it off.
Not your typical closing day, but nobody's complaining
Of course, this would be a somber time for most resorts. But Banff Sunshine isn't most resorts. The ski area has already announced plans to operate this summer. "Thanks to nearly 1000 cm of Canada’s Best Snow landing on our Rocky Mountains slopes this ski season, we will open on June 20th for 16 days of summer skiing and riding," Banff Sunshine announced on social media.
Strawberry Express will be operational, with another lift potentially spinning if conditions align. Expect groomer laps and a few rail features to be set up. Tickets are not yet available, but will be in the coming weeks ahead of the summer opening.
